Poetry Book Design

Creating a Tangible Legacy with Elegant Layout & Print Design

Sarah Avenir has been writing poetry for years, yet never published any of her work. Adam Avenir, her husband, approached us with an exciting yet deeply personal project: surprising Sarah by designing her first poetry book. We were entrusted with the responsibility of laying out the entire book, designing its cover, and managing the production process with the printer. Sarah’s vision was clear—she wanted a design that felt both traditional and vintage, while still embodying her unique personal style.

The Challenge

As a first-time published author, Sarah needed to translate her poetic voice into visual design. She sought a timeless aesthetic that would resonate with readers while honoring the minimalist qualities she admires. Balancing this with a reflection of her individual style was critical, and she turned to us for our expertise in creating cohesive, expressive designs.

The SOlution

We began by diving into Sarah’s poetic themes and creative preferences, ensuring we fully understood her vision. The book layout was crafted with traditional typographic elements, using elegant serif fonts and thoughtful spacing to evoke a classic feel. For the cover, we combined vintage-inspired textures and muted tones with delicate, modern details that highlighted Sarah’s personal style. Every design decision focused on creating a sense of harmony between the traditional and the contemporary. We also liaised closely with the printer to ensure the final product met the highest quality standards, reflecting the care and artistry Sarah’s poetry deserved.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

The Result

The final design exceeded Sarah’s expectations, moving her to tears. The book not only achieved her desired aesthetic but also became a tangible extension of her poetic expression. Sarah’s delight in the design work reflected the emotional connection she felt to the finished product, which remains a milestone in her creative journey.
